Sue has been a customer at Beaufort Court, one of our Independent Living schemes in Hastings since June 2021. Since moving into her new home, she has struggled with her mental health and has been looking for activities that she could get involved with. Due to the pandemic, it made it more difficult to get out and about and participate in the hobbies she’d normally like to take part in. We encouraged her to get involved in events taking place within her scheme and she participated in bowls, afternoon teas and making Christmas decorations.
We also referred her to Breathing Space, our free mental health support service, where Sue is now being supported by MIND, the mental health charity. With her newfound confidence, Sue decided to take up crocheting and has been making lovely blankets for the cats and dogs for a local veterinary practice ever since!
Sue said, “I am really enjoying doing it and will continue to crochet. I am hoping to learn new patterns and hope to be making some crocheted animals in the future.”
Breathing Space is just one of our Better Days services which you can find on the customer website under myWellbeing. Our teams support residents across all of our schemes who may be experiencing challenges with their mental health. Breathing Space aims to prevent problems from happening or getting worse, and tackles the causes, rather than dealing with the consequences. Our goal is to support residents to be in control of their lives and feel empowered to contribute to their community and society.
