With the support of our contractor partners, we planted these hedgerow whips across four of our estates. The plants included a mix of UK native species like Hawthorn, Rowan, Dog Rose, Blackthorn, and Beech.
These planting days were part of our wider goal to ensure that 30% of our outdoor spaces support nature’s recovery by 2030. This is all part of our support for The Wildlife Trusts’ ‘30by30’ campaign, which encourages organisations to protect and restore nature.
Access to outdoor spaces doesn’t just help wildlife; it’s essential for our mental and physical wellbeing. We hope these newly planted hedgerows will encourage communities to visit more of these green spaces which benefit both the environment and our customers
Chloe Curtis-Dunn, Green Spaces Improvement Officer at Orbit, said: “We are passionate about creating more sustainable and biodiverse environments for our customers and communities. Our planting initiatives not only benefit wildlife across our estates, but also our customers through better access to flourishing green spaces which positively impact their wellbeing.
“With our colleagues keen to support our biodiversity ambitions, it has been great to involve them in our planting days this spring and we’re excited to see the estates blossom in the future.”
We’re pleased to share that our biodiversity efforts have been independently verified by The Green Partnership, who recently assessed our processes, data management, and site surveys as we continue our work towards meeting our sustainability targets.
