The Green Partnership worked closely with us to review our progress. Their review included site surveys and interviews with people involved in the project. This helped us better understand where we are and how we can keep improving.
With the support of Wildlife Trusts we launched our Biodiversity Approach in 2022. Since its launch, we’ve made significant progress, including:
- planting 24 UK native trees
- planting 10,857 hedge plants
- creating 16,038 square metres of wildflower meadow.
We’ve also involved 130 colleagues, customers, and suppliers in volunteering to improve our estates for nature.
Joanna Crouch, Environmental Sustainability Manager for Orbit commented: “We are proud to be leading the sector with our biodiversity approach which is making demonstrable improvements to the outdoor environments within our communities and estates. As an organisation, we recognise our responsibility to tackle climate change and the need to support the enhancement of wildlife and nature as part of creating sustainable communities for the future in which our customers are proud to live.
“The audit from The Green Partnership was an important step in maturing our approach, gaining third party assurance and being able to demonstrate this to stakeholders including our customers. We have already started work on implementing their recommendations including the need to perform more post-enhancement visits to check on the performance of estates over time and a need to further our engagement and controls with grounds maintenance contractors to ensure correct management of improved estates.”
The Green Partnership helps landowners and organisations manage their natural landscapes. They focus on restoring the land in a sustainable way and supporting wildlife. We’re proud to work with them to keep improving the green spaces in our communities.
