The food was kindly donated by The Anchor fish and chip shop in Albany Park and personally delivered by the Mayor and Mayoress, who took the opportunity to engage with residents and employees, sharing tea-time refreshments and taking part in games.
The Mayor of Bexley, Cllr Ahmet Dourmoush, said: “It is always a pleasure to support our community. When we visited initially the residents wanted a fish and chips, but some could not afford it, so we arranged to return with fish and chips for all. Thank you to The Anchor fish and chip shop in Albany Park for their generosity. This is a wonderful example of community team work.”
Claire Griffin, Orbit Independent Living Scheme Officer at Hayley House, added: “We were delighted to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress of Bexley to Hayley House. It was a lovely treat for the residents to receive fish and chips, which were kindly donated by The Anchor, and what made it even more special was the fact it was delivered by the mayor! We had a lovely afternoon celebrating a residents birthday with tea and cake, as well as playing a game of hoy.”
Hayley House is an independent living scheme, specially designed for people aged over 55. Residents have the independence of their own apartments, with the opportunity to socialise and get involved with the community if they wish. Extra care and support are available to them should their needs and requirements change over time.
