Why are we creating these Non-Executive Director roles now? We’re at a pivotal point in our history. As your landlord, there’s a lot we’re proud of, but we know we can and must do better. We’ve set out our ambition to provide amongst the best customer experience of any housing association in the country in our new strategy, which covers the period 2024-2030.
As we’re prioritising improving our service to you, it’s important that we have the most appropriate and effective governance arrangements in place. Bringing customers onto our board is a key part of this and will ensure the customer voice is represented in all discussions, decision making and planning.
Board members can come from all walks of life and a variety of backgrounds. Support and training will be provided and we don’t expect people to have previous experience in a similar role. The main qualities we’re looking for are sound judgement, strong communication skills, some understanding of governance and an enthusiasm for representing the interests of the customers we serve – acting as a vital link between our 100,000 customers and the board.
These are paid roles and, in return for your commitment and time, you’ll have the opportunity to play a vital role in challenging us and helping to shape the future direction of Orbit. Of course, this opportunity will also bring with it other benefits, such as the chance to make connections with varied groups of people, an insight into how a not-for-profit housing association is effectively governed, and experience of actively participating on a board.
We’re working with a specialist recruiter, Saxton Bampfylde, to find customers for these roles. The application process is now open and will close on Monday 9 September 2024.
If you’d like to find out more, the recruitment pack can be found on the Saxton Bampfylde website here. The pack includes a question and answer section along with more detailed information on the role and what we’re looking for in a Non-Executive Director. There are also clear instructions on how you can apply for the role if you’re interested.
