Success Story - Having that 'can do' attitude
“I didn’t know who I was anymore” Charlotte*
After a difficult move to a women’s refuge, Charlotte struggled to get her life back on track. She found it difficult going for job interviews but knew she needed to pay the bills to support her family.
“I was in the job centre and I saw Orbit’s employment leaflet and thought what have I got to lose?” So she met her employment support coach (ESC) but wasn’t confident, “I’d lost my identity and my family and friends. I told her I couldn’t do it but her motivation was infectious and her encouragement spurred me on.”
It didn’t take long for Charlotte to be offered an interview. The ESC supported her, helping her tweak her CV and prepare for the interview, including the correct body language and tone of voice to use.
“It gave me that drive I needed. For the first time in a long time I felt I can actually do this.”
Her interview was a success and she’s now in full time employment. Her health is getting better and she feels stronger as she gets her independence back.
Her message to anyone worried about going back to employment is, “Go for it. [The ESCs] give people hope and confidence and help to build up your self-esteem. It really does change your life.”
